About the Author

David Bailey

The Unusual Zoo was created by author David Bailey as a result of his efforts to remotely entertain his grandchildren during the pandemic!

With its humour, original animal characters and use of rhyme he hopes the book will help children and parents re-invent storytelling and encourage future generations to create characters and write their own adventures. David is running a competition for Primary schools to get involved with him so that children can create their own new creatures to join The Unusual Zoo’s next publication.

It is a really funny kind of book! There are lots of short stories in this book all about a very funny zoo. It’s got funny animals inside it. Two creatures go together to make a new creature and its name is two animals names put together. There were lots of animals at the zoo and all of them had their own story. My favourite character and stories were the ones with Princess Roonicorn because she’s a girl and she has a unicorn horn. Her story was very nice because she was new to the zoo so she was a bit nervous. And she has a salon which is funny because she gets the colours wrong. I like the Girrelephant and the Camelonkey because they are nice to the other animals. My other favourite bit was that it all rhymes so it’s really funny to read or when your grown up reads it to you. The illustrations were colourful and exciting so I would recommend it to all zookeepers and to everyone who likes books and stories!.
